Pre-SIHH 2018: Introducing the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time (with Original Photos) Replica Buyers Guide

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time SIHH 2018 2

This really is a great time to discuss the outgoing generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph, which was really a bit more distinctive. It didn’t have exactly the same sort of manufacture movement, and it was a bit more straightforward overall but the more aerodynamic case and easy to comprehend bracelet were arguably greater than the newer version. Going back into the case, the more recent Overseas is more tonneau-style in shape, whereas the older version was not as “lengthy,” which benefited the look while the watch is being worn on the metal bracelet. Thus, even though the more recent Overseas is an update in many ways, the new larger Overseas Chronograph might have lost a bit of their visual mojo that made the collection have its distinctive charm. In terms of dimensions the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph 5500V household is 42.5mm wide (versus 42mm of their older generation) and 13.7mm thick (versus 12.45mm of the elderly generation). The situation remains water resistant to 150m and includes a sapphire crystal on the top and underside. The additional thickness especially makes for a rather large sized luxury sports opinion. The three-hand Overseas Simple Date is easily the better option if the thickness is significant to you. If you’d like a luxury sports opinion and need something quite large, then the Overseas Chronograph is the right option for you. Given that I have a tendency to associate these “high society” steel sports watches as being appreciated for their thin profile then, in my estimation, the thickness of the Overseas Chronograph makes for a cool looking watch, although not a particularly genteel-feeling watch. The coolest trick that Vacheron Constantin taught the Overseas was how to swap the strap and bracelet. The Overseas now includes a tool-less strap elimination system, combined with three strap/bracelet options per watch. This includes the matching steel bracelet, an alligator strap, along with a high-quality rubber strap. Spoiler alert – I discovered that the rubber strap to be both the greatest looking and the most comfortable.

Just last year Vacheron Constantin overhauled its Overseas line of luxury sports watches in a facelift defined by aesthetic refinements as well as in-house movements. And now at Dubai Watch Week, Vacheron Constantin brings out the Overseas Dual Time.

Although the Overseas line already includes a world time, the new Dual Time is a more straightforward travel watch. It adopts a functional display with two central hour hands for each timezone, the date at six, along with a day and night indicator at nine o’clock.

Though a new release, the Overseas Dual Time actually succeeds the first generation model, which was powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre cal. 920 and discontinued several years ago. That had slightly sportier appearance with a busier dial, something the new Dual Time has done away with in favour of ease of use.

The hour hand indicates the local time, while the red-tipped arrow shows the time at home. Both time zones can be adjusted forwards and backwards via the crown at three o’clock. In its first position the crown simply advances the local time by an hour, while the second position sets both timezones in sync.

The day and night indicator is linked with the home time, while the date is for the local time display. A screw-down pusher at four advances the date.

Identical in style to the other Overseas models, the Dual Time case measures 41mm, featuring the notched bezel that evokes the brand’s Maltese cross logo. It’s fitted with the new, in-house cal. 5110 DT, based on the cal. 5100 launched in 2016 found in the rest of the Overseas range. It has a 60-hour power reserve thanks to twin barrels.

And like the rest of the collection, the movement is topped with a 22k gold rotor decorated with a relief wind rose, and encircled by a soft iron ring that protects it from magnetism. Naturally it also bears the Poinçon de Genève, currently a hallmark found on all of Vacheron Constantin’s mechanical movements.

As it is standard with the Overseas collection, the Overseas Dual Time comes with a set of three bracelets (steel, rubber and leather), which can easily be swapped on and off using Vacheron’s quick-release mechanism – essentially an sprung catch that detaches the strap from the case.
